up late
2/23/10

I'm up pretty late these days.
Mostly trying to get more done, but some times just watching the rebroadcast of the olympics or getting lost online. It's bad. I know.
Tonight it was cleaning.
Today I managed to clean every room in the house, but I left the kitchen for last. (Because it's my least favorite. I hate how quickly and easily it tends to get messy again!) It got put off so long, I didn't start cleaning it till 11pm. Not the best idea, but at least I got it done. And tomorrow when we get up I know I'll appreciate having it clean.
Even when I stay up this late I try to take a shower before going to bed.
I use to think I couldn't night shower because my hair looks kinda crazy the next morning, (big and wavy- sounds cute but let me assure you it's not!) and my cheap straightener never could tame it.

But last year I finally invested in a CHI straightener.

This amazing straightener has made it possible to take my wild morning hair and straighten it into something beautiful. And showering at night saves me a lot of time the next morning. Now all I have to do is straighten my hair and put on my makeup. I hardly ever need to blow dry any more (which I love because blow drying it took so long and makes my thick hair even thicker!)
I also like night showering because I don't feel rushed, and it never has to get put off because something comes up or I run out of time in the morning. It seemed like when I would shower in the morning I would often only end up getting a shower every other day! (embarrassing but true.) Ever since I switched to night showering I've actually gotten a shower every day. (and don't have to worry about what the kids are doing) Plus night showering is a great way to relax at the end of the day.
Well it's getting later and later. I better go hop in the shower and get to bed.
You never know when this baby will decide to show.
I gotta get SOME sleep!
Big accomplishments

Reason #999 I love my husband...
He makes me awesome furniture.
(this bookcase is too tall for me to shoot in one picture, so here's 3)

It's not completely full yet, but that's what we accomplished tonight.
I love how it turned out and looks in our apartment.
My husband is pretty great.
I'm so glad we got it done before the baby came too.
Check!
(whittling away at that list of mine)
Oh! and I got the coat closet and coffee table drawer
(that use to hold games and now has toys in it) reorganized.
Check and check!!
Any day now...

Want to know what 40 weeks looks like on me?
Here you go.

I'm due today. TODAY!
This is the longest I've ever carried a baby & I have a feeling I'm going to go over my due date.
I actually feel better than I did the last two weeks when I was having lots of contractions.
We'll see though.
In the mean time I've been continuing to "nest" and knock things off my to do list.
(and trying not to add to it, but that's been hard. I was just noticing that cleaning our carpets would be a good thing to do.)
I went to Ikea this week and of course didn't buy what I'd planned to, but did come away with this cool new diaper bag for when we need one. (who knew Ikea sold diaper bags!) I use my purse as a diaper bag but we need something for when Kart takes the kids out or I leave them with someone. I got rid of our old one a while ago because it was beat up.
Here's the one I bought.
I like it because it's basically a changing pad that has compartments and folds up into a bag, so it's not very bulky. I think it'll be something Kart won't be embarrassed to carry. (always important)

I also took advantage of their sale on Valentines Day chocolates (buy one get one free- $5)
These chocolates are amazing and at that price I should've gotten more, but I restrained my self. I should have restrained my self more from eating them so quickly though! I don't think Kart had very many! oops.

Another thing I finally knocked off my list was figuring out the sleeping arrangements for the baby. We thought we'd do a bassinett again, but since we have a desk in our room this time (we didn't with emma) there's really not room for one.
So I finally decided on getting a moses basket. I found a good deal on one on our local online classifieds and brought it home on thursday. I'm pretty happy with it. We can put it any where and even bring it with us when we go to the Grandparents' house so it can sleep when needed in the bed it's use to. (I don't think I'll use the pillow, but it's cute so I left it in for now.)

I've got everything I need now.
There's still more to clean and organize, but I'm sure that list will never end.
So now I'm just waiting for the baby to arrive.
I wonder what the kids will think when it's no longer in my belly.
They understand what's going on, as much as they can. They talk to it and kiss my belly, but do they really realize that there's going to be a real live baby in our house?
I think they do but I can't be sure. I hope they welcome it.
I'm so interested to see how the new baby changes the dynamic of our home.
We're looking forward to meeting it.
(and not calling it an "it" anymore!)
still waiting

I'm "due" on sunday! Can you believe it? I can't.
I feel great. My congestion is pretty much gone, and I haven't had many contractions lately.
I feel better than I have in a while actually.
My dad thinks the baby will come on Wednesday, but we'll see.
It's weird to think this is it. I'm
about to give birth again and have a newborn.
I've been busy getting all my to do list items checked off before then
& I've been doing pretty good.
Last night I stayed up WAY too late making curtains for our room. We hung them up tonight and I have to say, they look awesome. It always amazes me how curtains can change the look and feel of a room. I love it, and was very happy to get that one crossed off "the list".
It's been hard for me to find curtain fabric that I felt would go well with our busy Idea bed sheets and the painting I did above our bed, but when I saw this fabric I felt like it actually worked with both. Thank goodness! I'm just so happy they're done.

It's back
2/13/10
The Netti Pot and I are friends again.
Dang it!
But at least congestion is my only problem.
I really feel pretty good otherwise.
I have a decent amount of energy and not many contractions. They mostly come at night, and they're nothing too serious. I'm hoping it just means I'm dilating.
I can't believe the big day is almost here!
Don't tell, but I started to panic last night thinking about pushing a baby out of my body.
My heart was literally racing!
It's just that once you're in the middle of child birth there's no turning back and that thought started freaking me out. Don't ask me why because I know I can do it. Especially if I've done it with out an epidural before...on pitocin. I never thought last time that I wouldn't be able to do it, so why should I doubt myself now?
I shouldn't.
I don't.
I just had a panicky moment. It's passed and now I'm fine.
I know my body is designed to do this, and with the help of my midwife, husband and some self relaxation techniques, I should be just fine.
All I want is a peaceful, joyful, spiritual experience. I know I can have that. I just need to focus on what I do want to happen instead of what I don't.
My dad feels like I'm going to go into labor on wednesday.
I'd really like it to be on the weekend, but we'll see.
Sorry my posts have been so baby related lately.
I'll try to talk about other things too now and then!
Thanks for stickin' with me.
PS- My son grew into a new shoe size in less than a year! (now he's size 10) He's growing up so fast. *sigh!
The Best Pizza Dough Recipe EVER
2/10/10

Okay. As promised, here's the fantastic recipe I was given from a friend for pizza dough.
No rise pizza dough!
It tastes great and is so fast to make up you'll have no excuse to not make pizza at home. It does call for a couple ingredients I don't normally have on hand (bread flour and soy lecithin) but once you have them you'll be ready to whip up your pizza dough whenever you feel like it.

Ingredients
5 1/4 c. bread flour
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 TBSP quick rising yeast (like saf-instant yeast)
1/2 TBSP salt
1 1/2 TBSP soy lecithin
(found in the suppliment section of your health food store- comes in liquid form too but I used granules. If you use a liquid do 2 quarter size drops of it- don't measure by TBSP)
2 c. hot water (I just get my tap water as hot as it'll go)
Mix the first 4 ingredients, then add the soy lechithin and water and either knead by hand or in your mixer. I'm lucky enough to have a kitchen Aid and that makes kneading easy. I just let it mix with the dough hook for 3-5 mins. Just till it all comes together. If it seems dry add a little more water. It should be slightly sticky when it's done.

My kids love to watch....

Here's how it looks when it's done.

Divide it in half. It makes 2 pizzas. (or one pizza and a dessert pizza or bread sticks!)

Roll it out.

To transfer it to the pan I like to use the pie dough trick and fold it in half and then in half again so it's in a triangle. Then you don't risk ripping it during the transfer.

I'd now like to introduce to you my absolute must-have for pizza making...
the pizza grate!
(I have no idea if that's it's official name but that's what I call it.)

It was only $5 at our local restaurant supply store and was the best $5 I ever spent on a kitchen item. I have my dad to thank for this one; he introduced me to it. It cooks the bottom of your pizza perfectly so it's slightly crispy on the bottom. (my big problem with other pans/stones was not cooking evenly or enough underneath) Plus you can build your pizza right on the grate. (**Update! We use to put ours in the dish washer but found out it ruins the coating on it and our pizzas have been sticking badly to the pan. DON'T put it in the dishwasher.)
Please go buy one if you can!
You'll thank me. :)
So back to baking...
I transferred my dough to the pan and adding all my toppings.
(remember- we're not letting the dough rise)
**Update- I almost forgot to mention that when buying mozzarella cheese you should really go get the huge block at Costco. Nothing else I've tried compares quality (or price) wise. It's SO much creamier and delicious than any other brand I've tried. Other brands seem to almost break apart instead of being smooth and stringy like you'd want it to be (when warm). Trust me on this. We've never had a problem using it all up either. There's lots of great uses for mozzarella, so don't be put off by the size of the block. (I believe it's kirkland brand) Ok, I'm getting off my soap box.

And then after about 10 mins in the oven (at 400 deg.) voila!
Delicious pizza your family will beg you to make again.

More Contractions
2/9/10
I don't know when this baby is going to decide to come but it keeps me on my toes.
Last night I had lots of contractions that kept me up at 3 in the morning.
Not fun.
Plus I felt sick to my stomach.
Also not fun.
Apparently that can be a sign that labor is coming...soon.
So who knows, maybe it'll be here sooner than we think.
There goes a contraction right now.
Did I mention I've been having them tonight too?
I better go drink some water.
During the day I'm fine.
Is it the moon?
In other news I have a great new pizza dough recipe I got from a friend that's
super fast and delicious! (you don't have to let it rise!!)
Maybe tomorrow's post I'll give you the recipe.
Goodnight!
My Sabbath Day
2/7/10
Do you ever have a perfect day?
Today was one of those days for me.
It was just a good day. The kind of Sunday I'd like us to always have.
I was able to get myself up as soon as the kids were awake and get them fed before Kart woke up. (he needed the extra sleep and is always letting ME sleep in,
so I was happy to be able to return the favor)
I finally found my favorite sunday CD and enjoyed filling our home with it's beautiful music while I got the kids dressed for church...early, while Kart got dressed.
Then I was able to get ready for church with out being rushed while Kart read to the kids from our Book of Mormon reader for children.
We were actually ready to go way before we needed to!
I just can't tell you how peaceful the whole morning was.
I loved it.
We made it to church on time.
Aiden sang his own version of the song every time a song was sung in sacrament meeting, (very cute!) and emma just tried to stay awake. (This new 11am church time is hard on her)
We enjoyed the meetings and I didn't even have trouble staying awake. :)
When we got home I got them fed, and in bed in a reasonable amount of time.
Then while my sweet husband did his church calling duties I got to enjoy a quiet and clean house relaxing with a book.
Now we're off to the in-laws for dinner.
Perfect day.
I'm so grateful for days like these.
Lunch
2/5/10
Peanut butter and jelly just taste better when you're
cozy in a laundry basket with your best friend.
nap time today
2/3/10

Emma discovered my nursing pillow and now insists on sleeping on it.
It's cute. :)
It just seems like it would hurt your neck after a while.
It must not bother her though.
She looks cozy.
False Alarm
2/2/10
Well, no baby yet.
Things calmed down after getting some breakfast this morning and more water.
I think I was dehydrated yesterday.
(which can bring on contractions)
I'll keep you posted!!
is this it?
2/1/10
Contractions.
More painful than normal. The kind you notice.
The kind that make me lay down.
(Don't book a ticket yet though mom.)
It's hard to tell if this is really "it" or not yet.
Part of me is ready. Part not.
Just sayin'.
I'm laying here waiting to see whether these get more intense or disappear....
To be continued.
PS-anyone have some peanut butter M&Ms? We're all out. :)
