fall activities for kids

I've been looking for fun fall activities to do with kids and have been collecting ideas. I decided to use those ideas I found or came up with to make an October activities tree. I have a hard time coming up with ideas of fun stuff to do at the last minute, so I figured if I planned out fun activities for the whole month, then I wouldn't ever have to stress about what to do with the kids that day and we'd all have a lot of fun this month.

Here's how I did our October activities tree:

1. I planned out an activity or 2 (if they were short) to do every day of the month (31).

2. I bought a blue poster board and painted a tree with 31 bare branches on it. (I had mine laminated at a teacher store so I could use it again for other months- green leaves in the spring and summer months and snowflakes for the winter months)

3. I cut out 31 fall colored leaves and numbered them on the front.

4. I wrote on the back of each leaf the activity for that day.

5. I stuck each leaf on with tape.

Every day we take off the leaf for that day and do the activity. I think it's going to be a fun tradition! Here's some pictures from our construction paper pumpkin face making activity.

I just cut out some pumpkins, and some noses, eyes, and mouths for them to glue on.

Qtips are a great way to let little ones use elmers glue. So far my kids have done great using that method!

I love that his pumpkin has lots of faces on it.

My little artist would rather draw on her pumpkin than glue pieces of paper so we just went with it. She drew some great swirls on hers.

Some of our other ideas include:
  • make pumpkin rice krispy treats
  • apple prints
  • apple picking and make applesauce or apple pie
  • caramel apple making
  • make pom pom spiders with googly eyes and pipe cleaner legs
  • go for a hayride
  • go pumpkin picking at a pumpkin patch
  • carve pumpkins
  • paint mini pumpkins
  • fondue
  • roast marshmallows and make s'mores
  • make halloween cards to send to family & friends that don't live near by
  • pinecone owls
  • rake leaves and jump in them
These are just some. I'll post pictures/instructions as we do them if you want more details on any of them. I hope you have lots of fun this October too!
